Stuart B Campbell is a poet I met whilst walking in Glen Muick. We stumbled across a coincidence: he had lived in my house as a student, almost twenty years before I moved there with my family. Some while later he sent me a copy of ‘Backhill’ a beautiful poem he wrote at the time which captures the essence of the place. It was strangely moving to rediscover my home through the words of another who once lived there.
Last year we met again at the Coast Festival. Stuart invited me to submit paintings to accompany a handful of poems in Northwords Now, a literary magazine for northern Scotland.
Stuart lives in Portsoy on the Moray Firth. He is regularly published in UK literary journals, and his most recent poetry collection is ‘The Stone Operation’ (Dionysia Press 2008); a fourth collection is currently under consideration. He is presently working on a commission to contribute poetry for a book on Scotland’s mountain areas. Stuart is interviewed at The Book Trust where you can also find links to his writing.
Picked up a copy in Strathpeffer purely on the strength of the cover… was a little disappointed to find it wasn’t the free art supplement i thought it might be, though the centre spread of your paintings made up for it!
Very inspiring stuff
